The Millennial Rapunzel by Dwi Anggraeni

     Once upon a time, a beautiful baby girl named Rapunzel was born with the beautiful shining hair. The Wise Man in the town said that Rapunzel's hair can make anyone looks beautiful and younger. Zillion pictures were all over Rapunzel’s parents’ Facebook. The parents received a lot of wall-posts, comments, and messages from their friends saying congratulations and how beautiful Rapunzel is.

     One woman, Anita, which is the rival of Rapunzel's mother since high school. Anita wanted kidnap Rapunzel so she can use the baby's hair to make her look young and beautiful. Thanks to technology, Google helped Anita to find a way to kidnap Rapunzel.

     One night, Anita broke into Rapunzel's house and saw a very beautiful baby girl with shining hair. Then, of course, Anita took a picture of Rapunzel before she took Rapunzel out of the baby cradle. After that, she ran as fast as possible as the people in the neighborhood were running after her. A long run led her to a big old building in the middle of nowhere.

     Anita took care of Rapunzel as her own child. If it wasn’t for her magical hair, she would never do that. Rapunzel didn’t know anything about it. All she knew was that she only have her mother and her gecko friends in her life. 

     As time passed by, Rapunzel turned 16 and she likes to do a lot of creative things during her spare time. Just like any other millennials, Rapunzel was always with her laptop, phone, and music on. A little boredom and loneliness were all she feels. Rapunzel wanted to have some new activities for her to do.

     “I want to be a Youtuber.” Yet she didn't know how and what she’s going to do in her video.

     Her gecko friend told her that she can make a make-up video tutorial, braid tutorial, etc. Rapunzel thought that gecko's ideas were great. So Rapunzel made her first video and it’s about nail art. Then, Rapunzel uploaded the video that she made to her youtube channel, "Raponz911fash" , with the title; “Super Easy Nail Art”. Rapunzel thought that 'Raponz' sounds much cooler and simpler than Rapunzel.

    The first video got so many positive responses from people. The viewers asked her to make more videos. Voila, Raponz finally found something fun to do.

     Rapunzel's next video was, “No Makeup – Makeup”. The second video got more views than the first one. So, Rapunzel decided to make more videos and her youtube videos were all about tutorials and fashion. Soon enough, Rapunzel became viral and people were talking about her beauty and shining hair. Rapunzel gained so many subscribers and followers, and they're calling her Raponz!

     However, Mama didn't know about this, she only used Facebook and Rapunzel avoids to share anything of her ‘second life’ on Facebook. Rapunzel knew that if Mama knows about this, she'd kill her.

Sreeeek.

     Rapunzel heard the sound of the door. Someone entered the house while she was making a video. She looked up to the clock and she knew that Mama’s not supposed to be here in this time. She held up her straightener as the steps getting closer to her room. Gecko was standing on top of the door handle. Rapunzel was brave and ready to whoever's coming.

Baaam!

     It’s a man. She hit the first man she saw. With a straightener.

     The man woke up and he said that he’s a big fan of Rapunzel. He, Eugene, said that people want to see her and he wanted to arrange the conference. Rapunzel was surprised and lost out of words. Eugene tried to convince her and then she agreed. Apparently, they had to find a way to get out from the old building that's keeping Rapunzel away from the world.

     Mama came, she rang the doorbell and said, "Rapunzel, I need your hair?". Rapunzel and Eugene were panic. Gecko told them that Eugene should hide somewhere. They searched everywhere to find a place that safe and fits Eugene. Mama had waited quite long so she decided to take the elevator.

     Eugene hid. Mama came in with a suspicious look. Mama said, "what's taking you so long, my dear?". Rapunzel said that she was just taking a selfie when Mama came.  Then, Rapunzel asked Mama to buy her a hair product, because she ran out of it. Mama told her that she could order it on eBay, but Rapunzel said that she wanted a different product. So, Mama had to get it for Rapunzel and she had to travel all the way accross the country to get the product. So, Mama left. Rapunzel and Eugene were so glad that they can finally escape from the old building.

     Rapunzel was in Eugene’s car for the first time. They drove to the conference in New York city. They took so many pictures and videos, then they uploaded it to Instagram. Her fans thought that they’re dating and they loved to see them together.

     At the conference, everyone was so happy and cheering Rapunzel’s name, which happened to be 'Raponz'. People were so amazed by Rapunzel's shining hair and wanted to touch it. Although, Rapunzel was so nervous, it felt just like a dream for her. She talked, took pictures, let them touch her hair, and gave autographs to her fans. Eugene recorded it. Then he uploaded it to Rapunzel’s Facebook Fanpage. Accidentally, Mama found out about Rapunzel’s conference. Mama was so mad and felt betrayed by Rapunzel. So Mama booked a plane ticket straight away to New York city.

     A producer asked Rapunzel if she wanted to work together with him. She wanted to, but she didn't want to make Mama angry. His wife’s eyes were puzzled into Rapunzel’s. They felt so connected. Right in that moment, Mama bursted in angrily. Mama and Rapunzel were arguing and Rapunzel didn't want to come back home. Rapunzel said, "I like it here, Mama. I get to see the world."

     “Anita, is that you?” said Rene, the producer’s wife. Anita was surprised to see Rene and her face turned to red. Rene became angry and said that Rapunzel is her baby and Anita took her when she was a baby. Rapunzel asked Anita if that was true and Anita just gave her a single nod. Rapunzel found it hard to believe but everyone said that it's true. Then, Rapunzel finally believes it and live together with her real parents which also her producer. Rapunzel became more successful with her YouTube. Rapunzel is now a generous and an inspiring person.

Tick, tick, Rapunzel married to Eugene. People were right about how they were made for each other.

     Anita… Well, she’s gone and no-one ever heard about her anymore. Some said that she owned a coffee shop in a small village, others said that she moved away. Well, we never know.

     Rapunzel finally got her happily ever after.
